Compact watch winders

Posted on 24 April 2020 at 7:54 PM

Are you looking for the right watch winder for your watch? If you own one automatic watch, you may prefer a compact model that is suitable for winding 1 or 2 automatic watches. There are many different brands and models available, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. A large watch winder with capacity for many watches may be a solution for the real collector and at the same time a nice way to present your watch collection, but if you do not have that many watches you may have very different requirements for this watch accessory. Most watch winders for 1 watch are compact in design. After all, you do not need much space and where larger watch winders are often used as a design piece, a compact watch winder should be functional and not take up too much space. You should be able to put it easily on a desk or in a wardrobe. Maybe you take the watch winder with you on a trip or vacation.

Especially when you want to use a watch winder in the office or when you travel a lot or you like maximum safety and place your watch with watch winder in a safe, a compact watch winder remains the most logical choice. It is ideal when this watch winder works on batteries so that you do not have problems with charging when it is in the safe. In addition, the advantages of a small or compact watch winder are that you are flexible and that they are usually affordable. It is also easy to expand your collection later.

There are various brands that offer compact watch winders. For example Swiss Kubik, Chronovision and Orbita. Swiss Kubik offers high quality Swiss made watch winders, of which the Swiss Kubik Startbox series is the basic model. Like the Leather and Aluminum series, it is suitable for winding one automatic watch and is very compact in size. Because they are available in different materials and colors, there is a suitable alternative for every enthusiast and interior.

With its One series, Chronovision offers various options for people who are looking for a compact watch winders. The Chronovision One watch winders are suitable for one watch and are available in various luxury materials such as wood, macassar and chrome. The various Chronovison compact watch winders are fully equipped including Bluetooth and they are battery-operated, so they are ideal for use when traveling, in the office or in a safe. An optional adapter is optional. Chronovision is so confident in its products that they have a three-year warranty.

The Orbita watch winders are also specially for people with one or two watches. The sleek Orbita Sparta watch winders are functional and take little space. Different colors such as dark blue, dark green and brown mean that there is a choice for different colors. These compact watch winders also run on batteries. The patented Rotorwind system ensures by means of the so-called "shaking" of the watch for an extremely efficient way of excitement.

A brand we should not forget is Benson. Within a few months, this brand presents an entirely new line of watch winders that is suitable for winding 1 and 2 automatic watches. The exact details are not yet known, but the brand promises that this series will be very luxurious and high-quality and will become a serious competitor of Swiss Kubik and Chronovision watch winders. We are very curious because the Black Series and Smart-Tech II series from Benson have already scored well in terms of ease of use, quality and durability.

In short, of course in addition to the function of winding an automatic watch, a watch winder can also fulfill a function in the interior. A beautiful watch winder immediately attracts attention and provides discussion material with friends or family who see your favorite watch rotating in the watch winder. Nevertheless, a compact watch winder without a luxurious appearance, which also works on batteries, has many advantages. We will list them for you. A compact watch winder is very effective, often affordable, takes up little space and is easy to expand when the collection of watches expands. In addition, a smaller watch winder is easy to take with you on a trip, to use in the office and for safety reasons it is easy to place in a safe.

When do you choose a compact watch winder? You choose this type if you have 1 or 2 automatic watches, you do not want to spend too much on a watch winder and if you like to be flexible. After all, you want to place the watch winder exactly where you find it easy. A large watch winder needs more space and also a socket nearby, since large watch winders do not work on batteries. So with a smaller watch winder you are always flexible.

What is the definition of a good watch?

Posted on 18 April 2020 at 9:20 AM

Watches, the accessory for men and women for decades to see what time it is. Where the watch was originally purely for timekeeping, it is nowadays also a piece of jewelry or even a status symbol. For men, the watch is one of the few pieces of jewelry, while women have much more choice. Think of necklaces, earrings and rings. The watch has always played an important role. Simply because time is a core value in our world. Because time plays an important role in everyone's life. Many people wear a watch because it allows you to see the time quickly and easily. After all, you have the watch on your wrist and with one arm movement you can see what time it is.

In recent years, many types of watches and watch brands have been added. Think of the smart watches from Garmin, Suunto or Apple. Classic watches have always been and always will be, think of brands such as IWC, Patek or Lange & Söhne. Breitling, Rolex and Tag Heuer watches are more modern. Or lesser known brands, such as Davosa, Fortis and Glycine, which offer just as good quality at a lower price. In addition, you have the differences in where the watch is produced. We all know the designation Swiss made, which Swiss watch brands are allowed to display on their watches and in their marketing campaigns. But also very good watches are made in Germany, France and Italy. Chinese watch brands had a reputation for poor quality, which was partly true for a long time, but have also improved and produce better quality. Maybe not yet at the level that is made in Europe, but make no mistake, they are coming. And that is only positive, because the greater the choice and competition between watch brands, the better the consumer can make a wise choice.

When you buy a watch, you want it to wear with pleasure and it must be long lasting. Of course you can expect more from a watch that has cost thousands of euros than from a watch that has cost a few euro. But what exactly is the definition of a good watch? Does this have to do with the price? What should you pay attention to? Where can you best buy a good watch? We will answer all these questions in this blog article.

What is the definition of a good watch?

The answer to the question of what is the definition of a good watch depends on the user and what he or she expects from the watch. When you are looking for a good watch, you have to ask yourself what is important for you. Do you find the watch brand itself, the appearance, materials, price or functions important? And to what extent? For someone who would like an extremely luxurious rose gold watch, a Chinese watch will be a disappointment. Those who want to use a watch for diving where the watch must be able to take a beating will not choose a watch with automatic movement and water resistance of 30 meters. If you often exercise, for example play golf and tennis, it is better not to wear an automatic watch. The claps and hits can have a detrimental effect on the timepiece inside the watch.

Everything stands or falls with what your expectations are of the watch and with which activities or outfit you want to wear it. Fortunately, there is plenty of choice and you will always find the watch that suits you. But we still haven't answered the question of what the definition of a good watch is. Simply because this question is not easy to answer and depends on many factors as outlined above. But we can give a few guidelines that we think can help you choose a good quality watch.

We would start with a good timepiece that is inside the watch and forms the heart of the watch. This can be a quartz, automatic or mechanical movement. The differences between these timepieces are large and we explained that in another blog article, but the quality of the timepiece determines whether the time is correct and the durability of the timepiece itself. After all, a watch with a less quality timepiece will not only break down earlier, but will also indicate the exact time less well. With an automatic or mechanical timepiece, there will be a difference between the time that the watch indicates and the real time. This is inconvenient and annoying, because you cannot rely on the watch.

A Swiss timepiece still has the reputation of excellent quality. Timepiece manufacturers such as ETA, Sellita and Ronda produce high-quality timepieces that are used in the watches of many Swiss watch brands, as well as watch brands from other countries. For example in the watches of Tag Heuer, Davosa and Junkers.

There are also Japanese watch manufacturers who make good watch timepieces. The Seiko and Citizen (Miyota) timepieces are world famous and are a cheaper alternative to the Swiss timepieces. Are they less in terms of quality? That is certainly not true. They are made in much larger numbers and the finish is often less attractive. They offer less luxury, but just like the Swiss timepiece, they neatly indicate the correct time.

In short, if you are looking for a good watch our first step would be to determine if the timepiece inside the watch is reliable and durable. Feel free to let the seller inform you about the timepiece. A Swiss timepiece is mostly more expensive than a Japanese timepiece, but you do get more luxury and a better finish in return. If you are just looking for a good timepiece that shouldn't cost too much, a watch with a Japanese timepiece is an excellent choice.

As a next point we want to discuss the materials of the watch as an important part of a good watch. We like to see solid materials such as stainless steel, sapphire glass and real leather. Watches made of plastic, plastic or wood are less durable. A watch case made of stainless steel does not rust, is strong and remains beautiful at normal use. Sapphire glass is one of the hardest type of glass for watches and hardly scratches. A genuine leather watch strap is smooth and comfortable and gives a watch a nice look. You can of course also put a solid stainless steel strap on your watch, especially if you use the watch a lot in/with water. A leather strap does not last long with a lot of contact with (salt) water. Good materials also affect the price. A good watch with Swiss timepiece, stainless steel case, sapphire glass and genuine leather strap simply costs considerably more than a watch with Chinese movement and plastic watch case.

We would like to warn you about so called well-known brands with a fantastic German sounding luxury name, where the watches from 800.00 euros now suddenly cost 200.00 euros. These are watch brands that are produced in China and have a chic sounding brand name attached to them. The timepieces used are of unknown origin and often these types of watches quickly break down. A beautiful, but otherwise insignificant and unknown, brand name is affixed to the dial to give the impression that you are dealing with a very prestigious watch brand. The price reduction should then convince you that you are making an excellent purchase. However, the truth is different. The materials of which the watch are made are of lesser quality. And the price is still too high for what you get.

We would also like to mention that certain watch brands with years of experience and history usually make better watches than relatively new brands and fashion brands. By fashion brands, watches that often cost less than 150.00 euros, we mean brands that are not actually a real watch brand, but do “stick” their brand name on watches that are often made in China. Think of well-known fashion brands that produce clothing but also want to sell watches with it. These watches that are very general in design but affordable. These watches are also often seasonal and are discounted after a few months. As a result, the watch price does not really remain stable in the short and long term. Are these watches of poor quality? No they are not. You can have a lot of fun at a nice price.

Brands such as Tag Heuer, Maurice LaCroix, Fortis, Epos and Damasko have many years of experience, knowledge and expertise in the production of watches. Producing watches is craftsmanship. This is reflected in the quality of the watches, the materials used, the service, but also in the price. The prices of this type of watches are often somewhat higher. Quality comes at a price. However, you do get a lot of watch in return and they are usually also more durable in the longer term. If you look at it this way, the investment of a higher amount can be more interesting in the longer term than having to buy a new watch every two years. When you buy a watch from a respected watch brand, you are sure to buy good quality. They have proven this for decades and that is why they have become so famous.

Is the quality of a watch related to the price?

Actually, we already gave the answer to this question a little in the text above. A good timepiece, solid materials and production by a well-known watch brand have a price. In our view, the quality of a watch certainly influences the price. However, a cheaper watch does not have to be bad. An Iron Annie watch made in Germany is very affordable and offers a lot of quality for its price (starts from 199.00 euros). There are also examples of very expensive watches that are not much better in quality than a watch with a lower price. You pay part of the price for the brand and the brand experience. A Breitling or Rolex watch has a certain appearance and is also a status symbol. You pay a little extra for this. A Davosa or Damasko watch from Germany, which also have a Swiss movement, is cheaper and is perhaps just as good in quality. Only Davosa and Damasko are smaller and lesser known watch brands and with a Breitling or Rolex watch you will stand out more and perhaps get the desired (or unwanted) attention.

A good quality watch that is made of good materials and has a solid quartz timepiece, for example from Ronda, starts from + - 200.00 euros. If you want a watch with automatic movement from Japan (Miyota or Seiko), the prices for a good watch start from 400.00 euros. If you prefer a Swiss made watch with automatic movement, keep prices in mind starting at 600.00 euros. The biggest differences in price are determined by the type of timepiece (quartz, automatic or mechanical) and the origin of the timepiece (Swiss, Japanese or Chinese). In addition, the watch brand, reputation and popularity play an important role in the price.

Quality has a major impact on the price. But in every price segment you can find a good watch with excellent features that you can enjoy for many years.

Where can you best buy a good watch?

You can buy a good watch in various places. What is most important to you, the lowest price without any kind of service or a fair price with good service? If you want to buy a watch for the lowest price, there are several web shops where you can succeed. Huge discounts are given on many ordinary watch brands and fashion watch brands. You can buy these watches from Amazon, Ebay or Alibaba. However, do not expect a special service and take into account a more complicated settlement and high shipping costs in case of a defect.

If you want to buy a watch where you also get good advice and can always return for service in the form of answers to questions and warranty in case of a defect, we advise you to visit a good online store or jeweler. These are often official dealers of the respective watch brand and have years of experience in watches, watch winders and other accessories.

Often you already have a certain feeling when you enter a jeweler or visit an online store. If you have doubts, ask the right questions and listen carefully to the answers. Are they only busy with a sale or do they really want to help you so that you buy exactly the watch you want? There are many good jewelers and online stores that sell beautiful watches, help you well and are keen to help you in case something is wrong with the watch. Then you're at the right place!

How important is the motor of a watch winder?

Posted on 3 April 2020 at 11:40 AM

In this blog article we write about the importance of a watch winder motor. The motor is the heart of the watch winder, and due to it's rotation the automatic watches are wound.

What is a watch winder?

A watch winder is an accessory for automatic watches with which you can provide them with energy. When an automatic watch is not worn, it loses energy, causing it to stop. Standstill is not good for an automatic watch because it has many moving parts in the movement that are best to be in motion. You simply place the watches in the watch winder, which then rotates the watches so that they obtain energy. This makes the watches immediately ready to wear, without having to wind the watch and without having to reset the time, date or other functions. A watch winder is very handy! In addition, a watch winder has several other benefits that we have already written about in our other watch winder blog articles.

Most important parts of a watch winder

What are the most important parts of a watch winder? A watch winder is actually a kind of case in which you place the watches, which then rotate the watches. The rotation of the watches is done by small motors. These motors are built in and you cannot see them. The motors are controlled by the CPU, which receives instructions via the control panel of the watch winder. The operation of a watch winder can be a button, LCD display or touchscreen. Each setting via the controller is sent by the CPU to the motors. For example, when you set or change the direction of rotation or the number of revolutions per day (TPD: turns per day). The main technical parts are the motors, the CPU and the control panel. Of course, the watch holder is also very important, because you place the watch on it.

Information about the motor of a watch winder

Inside the watch winder are small motors that rotate the watch holder with the watch on it. These small motors can run clockwise, counterclockwise or alternately. In addition, they can run in a specific program, for example with an X number of revolutions per day or with a pause between the running cycles. The motor is one of the most important parts of the watch winder because it ensures that the watches rotate and thus obtain energy. Most watch winders have one motor per rotor (so one motor per watch). This allows you to set each rotor individually for one watch and you are completely flexible. However, there are also watch winders where one motor drives a plateau on which 2 or even 3 watches can be placed. This is not our preference because the motor has to deliver more energy/power and you are not flexible in terms of watches that you want to wind up. Simply because all 2 or 3 watches turn in the same direction with the same number of revolutions per day. Because the movement of automatic watches differ, it is common for the requirements for excitement to differ per watch. For example, one watch is wound clockwise at 900 TPD, while another watch is wound counterclockwise at 1500 TPD. With a watch winder with one motor for several watches, you cannot separate and the watches will be wound in the same way. This may lead that one or more watches will not receive energy and will still come to a standstill. The motors drive the watch winder and are therefore very important. They must work in harmony with the CPU and control.

Origin of watch winder motors

Most watch winder motors are made in China. These motors are relatively cheap to produce, so they are widely used in unknown watch winder brands, which you can buy on Amazon, Ebay or Alibaba, for example. The price of these watch winders is low but you don't really know what you are buying. In terms of durability, quality and functionality, the Chinese motors are less good than motors made in Japan, Germany and Switzerland. Chinese motors often tend to break down relatively quickly, can produce a lot of noise or can have malfunctions. This makes the use unpleasant. After all, you want a good watch winder in which your automatic watches are wound safely and professionally.

Japanese motors are used by most good watch winder brands. Examples are Benson, Paul Design, Boda Concept and Heisse & Söhne. All leading brands that produce good watch winders with an excellent price/quality ratio. Japan is known for their high professional knowledge, innovation and sustainable technology. Think of brands such as Sony and Toyota. Japanese motors are very good quality, reliable and affordable. This combination ensures that the above watch winder brands can offer good quality for a very competitive price.

There are also brands that use German motors, a good example is Chronovision. This beautiful German watch winder brand produces watch winders in-house. These watch winders are equipped with a motor that has been fully developed and produced in Germany. These Chronovision motors are powerful and durable. Because they are made in Germany, they are also more expensive than Japanese motors. In terms of durability and functionality, they are comparable to Japanese motors.

Most high end watch winder brands use Swiss motors. These “Swiss made” motors are used by brands such as RDI, Bernard Favre, Orbita and Swiss Kubik. The advantage of Swiss watch winder motors is that they offer the best features. They are powerful, durable, functional and virtually silent to use. As a result, these motors are the most expensive compared to Japanese and German motors. Just like with Swiss watches, with a watch winder with a Swiss motor you also pay a bit for the “Swiss made” designation. This predicate is still very highly regarded and brands know that they can ask a little more for their products.

The differences between a Japanese, German and Swiss motor are relatively small. The difference is most in the sound that the motor produces. But this noise plays a relatively small role when the motors are built into a watch winder box that absorbs sound. For example, a wooden and lockable (watch winder with a door or lid) watch winder already absorbs a lot of noise, making the motors barely audible.

The difference between a Chinese and, on the other hand, a Japanese, German or Swiss motor is, however, very big. That is why we have no watch winder brands with a Chinese motor in our range. We only choose quality, durability and good functionality by having only watch winder brands with a Japanese, German or Swiss motors in our collection.

Power and durability

It is important to choose a watch winder that has good motors. You want to be able to wind all kinds of watches, from small to large and from heavy to light. Especially larger and heavier watches demand more from an motor. This motor has to provide more energy/power to run a larger and heavier watch. A powerful motor will rotate such a watch much more easily than a motor that is less powerful. If you have a watch winder with low quality motors and place larger and heavier watches in it, the motors will quickly cause problems. They will wear out faster and will therefore rotate more irregularly, make more noise and break faster. Our advice is therefore always to choose a watch winder that has good Japanese, German or Swiss motors. These last mentioned motors also last longer in terms of sustainability. This allows you to enjoy your watch winder for years.

Sound level

Watch lovers put their watch winder in different places. One puts the watch winder in the living room, another prefers the office or the bedroom. The sound level plays an important role in this. In a living room or office you accept a higher sound level than in your bedroom where it is important that the watch winder does not keep you out of your sleep. Now the perception of the level of sound is personal and one can handle background noise better than the other.

The sound that the watch winder makes is highly dependent on the motors, design and material of the watch winder. The main rule is that a watch winder motor always makes a certain level of sound. They consist out of parts that rotate, making total silence impossible. A good motor makes relatively little sound. A Japanese or German motor produces a very low noise level. Most Swiss motors produce the lowest sound level.

The design and materials of which the watch winder is made may play an even greater role in the degree of sound. For example, the Benson Black Series watch winders are made of wood (absorbent) and have a lid and door with which you minimize the noise of the motors. A combination of good motors and good design is preferred.

Conclusion

The watch winder motor is very important. After all, the motor ensures that automatic watches are properly and safely supplied with energy. The motor is, as it were, the heart of a watch winder. There is a choice of many different motors. The best watch winder motors are made in Japan, Germany and Switzerland. It is best to ignore the watch winders with Chinese motors.

There are big price differences in watch winder brands. Watch winder brands from Germany and Switzerland are predominantly more expensive in price than watch winder brands that use motors from Japan. These Japanese motors are almost as good. German and Swiss motors have the advantage of providing the lowest possible noise level.

However, you do pay a little extra for this.

Davosa watches; affordable Swiss made watches

Posted on 1 April 2020 at 3:43 PM

In our blog we often write about watches, watch winders and watch boxes. One of our favorite watch brands is Davosa from Germany. This brand manufactures beautiful watches with Swiss movements at very competitive prices. As a result, a high-quality watch is also in reach for watch enthusiasts who do not want or cannot spend thousands of euros. Davosa watches offer the best in quality, design and finish but are simply cheaper than brands such as Oris, Tag Heuer, Breitling etc etc. Davosa is of course less known in terms of name and reputation, but the brand has made a lot of progress in recent years. The watches are often worn by people who choose the excellent features of the brand, rather than a well-known name from Switzerland. In this blog we will tell you a bit more about Davosa watches and hopefully we can convey our enthusiasm a bit to you.

For the enthusiast of the automatic watch, the German watch brand Davosa is certainly interesting. This brand produces Swiss made watches, with which the quality is guaranteed. A rotating bezel, luminous indicators and date display make these watches complete. The Davosa Ternos Diver Ceramic watches are also equipped with a ceramic bezel, which is well protected against scratches. Both the case and the watch strap are made of stainless steel, which gives the watches a tough look. This Davosa watch is available with different dial colors such as black, blue, brown and green. The watches from the Davosa Ternos Black series are waterproof up to five hundred meters and are made of stainless steel and stainless steel PVD. These watches are also equipped with a ceramic bezel. The Davosa Ternos Professional series also houses watches that are waterproof up to five hundred meters. The stainless steel also returns in this series and we see many shades of blue and black.

The Davosa Argonautic watches are also divided into different series. The Davosa Argonautic houses watches with a stainless steel or Nato strap. The watches are equipped with luminous indicators, helium valve and rotating bezel. The watches within this series have a sporty look. What are the advantages of buying a watch online?

Posted on 25 March 2020 at 11:24 AM

When you are looking for a good quality watch, you have several options. You can choose to go to a traditional jeweler, but a good webshop is also an interesting option. Of course there are advantages when you choose to visit a jeweler. You can view, feel and fit the watch. You also have human interaction and you can ask for advice to which you will receive an immediate answer. But there are also disadvantages, many jewelers have only a few watch brands available and not the entire collection in stock. Often the prices at jewelers are also higher, because they have to pay for their property, stock, insurance and personnel.

Junkers Bauhaus 6060-5

Buying a watch from a reliable webshop has many advantages. You can think of a wide range, competitive prices, fast delivery, professional advice and convenience. When you order online, you have your watch at home within a few days and you do not have to go out.

However, it is important to choose a webshop that has a good reputation. Of course you want to be sure that you actually receive your chosen watch. Also consciously choose a webshop with experience and the necessary "know how". They can assist you in making the right choice and provide you with any requested advice. It is advisable when you choose a particular webshop to read the reviews that are available. That often makes you a lot wiser. You can also take a look at how long a webshop has been selling watches, this often says something about the experience and knowledge of the company.

As a hint, we also want to advise you to buy from an official dealer. An official dealer provides a wide range of watches, competitive prices but also a solution in case of warranty or repair. An official dealer also proves that the brand and webshop cooperate together and has confidence in the webshop. For example, we are an official dealer of brands such as Davosa, Meccaniche Veneziane and Junkers.

As mentioned, a great additional advantage of buying a watch online at a webshop is that the collection is often much more extensive than at a jeweler. In addition, a watch shop will be fully focused on the sale of watches and possibly watch winders, while a jeweler mainly sells jewelery, silver and gold in addition to watches. It is therefore only a small part of the jeweler's range, while the watch is the most important product for the webshop. A wide range in combination with the right advice is ideal in this respect.

Davosa Ternos GMT

A goodweb shop where you can set the right filters gives you the opportunity to choose from a very wide range of watches and at the same time helps you filter the options so that all is easy and clear. You can easily filter whether you are looking for an automatic, mechanical or quartz watch. You can also choose a brand, the desired price range and, for example, the color of the dial or watch strap at a well-arranged webshop. And there are many other options. Ideal, because you end up exactly with the type of watch you are looking for, without having to take a lot of time. This way you can also easily and quickly compare watches and webshops. This is also a great advantage in connection with the price, webshops can offer competitive prices and regular nice discounts. Online you can easily see where you need to be for the best price.

Some people will find it a disadvantage that they cannot view their favorite watch in real life, such as at the jeweler. But if you shop at a good web shop, they will ensure that there are good images and specifications available so you know exactly what you are buying. So you have all the necessary information together and you can therefore filter exactly what appeals to you. If you still have questions, customer service is ready for you. Contact by phone or email is easy and accessible.

If you have found a watch that appeals to you, you will generally want to enjoy it quickly. The advantage of a webshop is that it is "open" for 24 hours, so you can always go online. In addition, a good webshop will ensure fast delivery, so that you receive your purchase at home quickly. When you have selected a reliable webshop, it will ensure that your watch is properly packed and comes with a warranty. This way you can enjoy your purchase with a good feeling.

In short, a webshop has several advantages: it is quick and easy, they generally offer competitive prices and regularly interesting discounts, there is a lot of choice from many different brands and you can always go there.

In our webshop you will find a wide range of watches. We are official dealer of well-known brands and have more than 15 years of experience. In addition, we do our best to offer you the best price. Of course you can pay with your credit card, iDeal, Paypal or simply via online banking. We ship within the BeNeLux via DPD and worldwide you can choose from FedEx or PostNL. Do you have questions? Just ask them, we are happy to help you!
