Now you have to find out which direction of rotation and number of revolutions per day your automatic watches need. There are databases available on the internet that indicate how best to wind the watch per watch brand and model. The rule of thumb is that most automatic watches are wound clockwise at 900 TPD. Keeping automatic watches still for too long is not good for the timepiece. You can better keep automatic watches moving.

A good watch winder is absolutely safe for winding automatic watches. Both the watch winder and the (modern) automatic watch have overwind protection.
